The Hume Highway.
I first started shooting highway memorials back in 2002 during a month off spent driving around the country after covering the Bali Bombings, I’m constantly moved by these tragic reminders, each one represents
a life that once was, a family bereft, a community shattered. I will be publishing these on a regular basis in U Turns and riffing on what I call ” Roadside Ghosts “. This particular one was photographed on a grim winters afternoon after spending 3 days sitting on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin staking out the then incumbent and in disgrace Govenor General Peter Hollingsworth. As if the road to the nations capital wasn’t depressing enough!
