Mutika # 9

By Glenn Campbell

The day that I took this particular picture was not only marked by the fact that the town of Katherine had been inundated for the second time in a decade but it was also the day that country music legend Gene Pitney died as I was wading chest deep through the waters that covered the main street, the towns loud speakers were pumping through the local radio stations tribute to Gene, so I was working to a soundtrack, all the hits were present…”24 hours from Tulsa”, “Groovy kind of Love”, and my personal favourite “The man who shot Liiberty Valence “ truly one of the most surreal experiences of my career and as I was struggling through the waters the local NT emergency response boys dragged me out of the water and gave me and a few other citizens a lift to the high ground as the Mutika in the photograph went back the other way.
