This weeks Mutika is very much background material as Ravi Omberg , then co-ordinator of Tapatjatjaka Arts in Titjikala, goes golden retriever on Henbury Station after renowned artists Johnny Young and David Wallace spotted the bush turkey at what would have been at least 100 meters and brought him down with a head shot for the pot.
Henbury Station Mutika.
I did’nt know how they prepared the bird central Australian style but I suggested a Queensland recipe passed down from father to son,

Bush Turkey

- First obtain your turkey , a head shot is best or if you hit one with your landcruiser, don’t think of it as losing a wind screen but gaining a bit of free protein, back up and throw it in the tray.

- Light the fire , boil the pot, throw in the dressed bird and a pair of RM Williams boots.

- Stir and let simmer for 2 hours.

– Drain the pot

– Throw out whats left of the bird

– Eat the boots.
