Hi, I was at Annandale 3 weeks ago and saw the graves. I am writing an article for a magazine and would love to find the names of the family and the date of the tragedy. There seems to be 2 stories - one has girls and another boys. One has them dying of thirst and another of accidental poisening from not properly cooking some desert plants used as food by aboriginals.

Annandale was lush and green with water birds everywhere - nothing like the photos on your page. What a difference a couple of good seasons makes!

Regards
Robert Norman

HI THERE
We traveled to Annandale Homestead in early August 2011 we saw 2 crosses near the chimney which was close to the blazed tree.
We did not look further out near the sand ridge.
Did the old fellow say what was blazed (written)on the tree I would also be interested to know.
After looking at your photo's it certainly has overgrown in the past
there's plenty of growth now.
Cheers Cliff

Hi Stephen , Thanks for taking the time...If you don't know how to get to Annandale , just ask David Brook in Birdsville, as the graves are on his property, as for the graves there is one to the right north of the chimney stack and the other is further to the north east close to the base of the dune...easy to miss but the wire netting should still be there if the crosses have deteriorated , take your time and you'll be right!
Cheers Glenn

Hi

A great read and we have been there before. We are heading out there again next week and would like to find the graves. Are you able to give us some directions from the old ruins as to where to find the grave.

Regards, Stephen

You're right about the "hard light, long shadows and dash of loneliness". That symbolises small country towns to me as well. Especially on a Sunday afternoon ...
