Mutika Monday
An enduring love/hate , on again off again love affair with the Toyota Landcruiser , I’ve had 3 , a 1981 SWB , 1997 Troopie and now a 2005 100 series.
They are every where up here I can’t swing my camera without shooting one in the background. The people I work with and photograph are either driving them, getting out of them,
working on them, chasing something in them or crashing them.
Mutika # 16- The road to Birdsville!
This weeks Mutika is at sunset on the way down to Birdsville on the romantic sounding Diamantina Developmental Road. Some years you find yourself going back to the same place over and over , places that suddenly call you saying “ but wait…there’s more “. and more and more, Birdsville is one of those places for me when... »

I’ve had a break from Mutikas for the past couple of weeks but now present this weeks cruiser, a Troopie that is ACTUALLY a Troopie , taken during the 2006 troubles in East Timor when the ADF came back to Dili after 5 or so years of rebuilding and relative peace after the country... »
Mutika # 13
This weeks Mutika was shot while on assignment on the Birdsville Track , the road between Bedourie and Birdsville was flooded so we had to make a 200 km diversion around Lake Machattie which was the only desert lake in the district not to have had any rain. I was on the way to Birdsville... »

Mutika # 11
This photo was taken on Riversleigh Station when I was working on my first long term project waaay back in 1990 when all I wanted to do was jump out of trucks and choppers and take photos…something I’m still doing now, funny how some things don’t change that much when you know what you... »

I’m heading down the track for a week on assignment for the Age , I can’t say too much! »
Mutika # 9
The day that I took this particular picture was not only marked by the fact that the town of Katherine had been inundated for the second time in a decade but it was also the day that country music legend Gene Pitney died as I was wading chest deep through the waters that covered... »
Mutika # 8
I got myself a flat tyre on the road out of Wadeye when the light started to get low more and more mutikas trying to get off the dirt to the bitumen before the sun sets because you really don’t want to be on that road at night , I took this picture and... »
Mutika # 7
Just goes to show that in the Top End it takes a long time for the country to dry out as we found out on the Tompkinson River flood plain near Maningrida as the Djelk Rangers and I were scouring the flood plain for a few buffalo to shoot a full 5 months... »
Mutika # 6
This weeks Mutika is very much background material as Ravi Omberg , then co-ordinator of Tapatjatjaka Arts in Titjikala, goes golden retriever on Henbury Station after renowned artists Johnny Young and David Wallace spotted the bush turkey at what would have been at least 100 meters and brought him down with a head... »
